ABOUT
Hi I am Rebecca
Owner of Yorkshire Girls Bakes!
So if you've not already guessed it I am a Yorkshire girl living in Malton the food capital of North Yorkshire. I am married to my husband Rob and a Mum to twin girls. For the last 20 years I have worked for the NHS but after a period of illness and finding out that I had a severe gluten intolerance I started to experiment with gluten free baking. And Now over a year later I bake all things cake, cupcakes, traybakes such as Brownie, Flapjack, Blondies and my popular Millionaires Shortbread all gluten free and super delicious.
I feel really happy to provide gluten free options for people who also may have an intolerance or Coeliac Disease.
I supply a number of cafes and hope to supply more in the hope many others can enjoy my bakes.
I look forward to baking you some delicious treats!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE GLUTEN FREE?
Some People have a Gluten Intolerance or Coeliac Disease which is a serious health condition. Coeliac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease caused by a reaction to gluten.
Did you know that 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease.
Gluten Intolerance and Coeliac disease symptoms include diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, stomach cramps, mouth ulcers, fatigue.
Once diagnosed, coeliac disease is treated by following a gluten free diet for life. It is not a choice for many to be gluten free!
Gluten is a protein found in the cereals wheat, barley and rye and people following a gluten free diet have to avoid gluten containing foods such as Bread, Pasta, Cereals, Pastry, Biscuits, some sauces and many more.
It is also really important that gluten free foods are stored/displayed separately as there is a risk of cross contamination even a crumb of gluten can make someone poorly.
If you would like more information on following a gluten free diet a great source of information is Coeliac UK.
